About Us

In the Beginning...

Paul Millennas and Paul Scothern left Kinnerton Morris Men at the end of 1990 season and met occasionally during the intervening period to discuss the formation of a different kind of team.  Welsh Border was chosen as it was considered more flamboyant and that Cotswold was already well supported in the area.  Neither had experience of Welsh Border.  Paul Millennas went to a one-day Border workshop led by Mike Salter of Open Morris where several dances were covered.

Start-up Meeting, The Fox, Ysceifiog.  Sunday 3rd March,1991...

The two Pauls,  their spouses and three other friends attended.  The formation of the team was discussed and it was decided to start one.  Paul S believed that he could secure the local hall for practice nights.  They discussed what logo they should use and someone pointed out that on each table of the pub were daffodils, left over from St. David's Day.  It was decided that daffodils would be the main logo.

April...

Paul M contacted Flag Crackers of Craven and arranged for a special weekend workshop just for Clerical Error members.  The weekend was intensive and Flag Crackers taught three dances:  Jolly Black Sheepskins, Craven Stomp and Wrekin Havoc.  Each Clerical Error family was put up by a Flag Crackers family.

First Dance-Out - Lixwm School, Saturday 15th June 1991...

'It was drizzling intermittently.  We started in a small procession up to the school.  There were hardly any bystanders.  We performed two spots.  The first consisted of: White Ladies Aston and Brimfield Stick.  The second:  Three Jolly Black Sheepskins and Wrekin Havoc.  The team retired to the Crown pub where they danced informally for the rest of the afternoon.'

Dancers: Briddy Bridson, Kate Grady, Paul Millennas, Kath Roberts, Ali Scothern, Paul Scothern, Ian Swan, Gill Wallington. Musicians: Tim Mainwaring, John Owens, Matthew Roberts.

Since those early days the team has gone from strength to strength performing outside more pubs, at days and weekends of dance, at festivals and fairs of every kind including Llangollen International Festival, Middlewich Folk & Boat Festival,  Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing, Two Rivers folk festival,  Bunkfest and Hastings Jack-in-the-Green.  Internationally we have performed in Ireland, France, Germany and Prague, most recently at Guingamp Saint Loup festival in Brittany in 2009.
